Bio

Yishu Huang is a vocalist from China who is proficient in interpreting various musical styles, including traditional Chinese folk songs, opera, jazz, pop, and musical theater. She is acclaimed for her wide vocal range, strong versatility, expressive stage performance, and explosive energy. Additionally, she is a violinist and songwriter, actively engaged in music composition and stage performances due to her profound understanding of Chinese ethnic music and passion for contemporary music.

Yishu Huang was born on October 10, 1999, and grew up in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. At age five, she began learning the violin and was admitted to the prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music at 17, majoring in ethnic vocal music. There, she received systematic professional music training and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance in June 2022. In September 2023, she received a scholarship offer from Kingston University London to join the Master's program in Music Performance and is currently enrolled there. Throughout her musical career, Yishu Huang has achieved recognition by winning the Bronze Prize in the Schumann International Music Competition and participating in major music events and performances like the Shanghai Pudong Music Festival's opening ceremony.

One of her notable works is the adapted piece "By the Waterside," based on the Chinese art song of the same name. This piece blends jazz elements with traditional Chinese melodic scales and composition techniques, serving as an experimental fusion of traditional and contemporary music. A live version of this piece will be presented at her graduate music recital.
